Winfield Street Coffee Opening at The Ferguson Library in Stamford
Winfield Street Coffee will open at The Ferguson Library this summer. The coffee shop, which will offer Counter Culture Coffee, Battenkill Milk and Hudson Valley Harvest produce along with other local products, will also serve fresh baked goods, their renown breakfast and lunch sandwiches, as well as salads. It will open in the former Starbucks space once renovations are complete, probably in mid-August.
The breakfast menu will feature mouth watering dishes including: Burnt Blood Orange Toast, Overnight Oats, Avocado Toasts, and an Egg & Cheese Waffles. Lunch will have tasty items such as a Chicken Thigh Sandwich, the Salmon Furikake Bowl, and a lovely Veggie Sandwich.
Owner Breno Donatti also operates the Winfield Street Italian Deli in Westport and another Winfield Street Coffee at the Croton-Harmon train station in Croton-on-Hudson New York. He lives in Stamford with his family.
“The location at The Ferguson Library is very special to me, personally,” Breno said. “I met my wife, Jeanette, exactly ten years ago right on the steps of The Ferguson Library. I believe that coffee shops and libraries are just a natural fit. This community is excellent and the library is what glues the city together. We intend to bring the same joyful hospitality and creative food we have at our other locations.”
Domus, a nonprofit which serves high risk youth in Stamford, will help design and construct the new space. Once the café is open, Winfield will provide employment opportunities for young people enrolled in Domus’ programs.
“We are pleased and excited to be part of this new partnership,” said Mike Duggan, Executive Director of Domus. “More importantly, our young people will get the real-life work experience within the service industry while developing the skills necessary to continue on the path to success.”
“We wanted to find the right tenant for the space,” said Alice Knapp, President of The Ferguson Library, “and Winfield Street Coffee turned out to be the perfect fit. We are excited about offering great coffee and locally sourced food, and love the synergy of working with Domus to provide opportunity for Stamford’s youth.”
The Ferguson Library is Stamford’s public library system, consisting of the Main Library, DiMattia Building; the Harry Bennett Branch; the Weed Memorial & Hollander Branch; the South End Branch and a traveling Bookmobile. It provides free and equal access to information, ideas, books and technology to educate, engage and enrich the Stamford community.
